Values
Dignity is concerned with how people feel, think and behave in relation to the worth or value of themselves and others. To treat someone with dignity is to treat them as being of worth, in a way that is respectful of them as valued individuals.
Respect is about treating others the way you would want to be treated, at all times and in all situations. Being respectful means extending to others the patience, courtesy, kindness, and politeness that you, yourself, would want to receive.
Inclusion recognises the right of every human to participate meaningfully in all aspects of community life. Inclusion happens when all individuals are viewed as capable and valued contributors, as opposed to having deficits that need to be fixed.
Equity is recognising that, as human beings, we all have the same value. This means we all have the same rights; we should all receive the same level of respect – and have the same access to fair and equal opportunities based on our individual needs.
